I sent a letter to H.R. after a month or so. I thanked them again for the opportunity to interview and stated that I was anxiously awaiting the word from them. Can't say that it made a difference but it sure makes you feel a little bit better. Sometime you just have to do something before it drives you crazy. That was 10 years ago, I guess nothing has changed.
