I don't think there will be as many lifers once airlines like American lose half their pilots within the next six years or so. Who knows though, I know the movement is slow now but I'd like to think its bound to pick up sometime within the next 10 years...
American only retires around 500 out of their 11,166 pilots in the next six years. If only a third of their furloughees come back , and they stay the same size, they won't need to hire for 7 or so years.
