My perspective:
Briefing the public and government that under-qualified and below-average pilots are members of ALPA
makes ALPA look bad.
ALPA has been harping on the NTSB's insistence on coming up with a single probable cause. This is nothing new for ALPA on this accident. They just really harped on it this time and were hoping that with a landmark case like this one that the NTSB would take a different approach. I don't think ALPA pilots have a monopoly on causing airline accidents anyways. And if ALPA's goal of representing all airline pilots, then all airline accidents attributed to pilot error would be ALPA members. I think you are misreading ALPA on this one.
