Word of caution regarding the wording: some airlines are more "commuter friendly" than others. Some companies have commuter clauses in their contract which allow you to avoid a "missed trip" issue if there were legitimate issues beyond your control that prevented you from getting to your base in time (ie the plane you are on diverts or goes mechanical, etc etc). Others have very little tolerance for commuters. Colgan is one example I have heard of that has little sympathy for commuters since they expect all their crews to move to the bumfudge towns they base at. But as long as you get to your base by show time then most companies don't care if you live in your car out in the parking lot or you are a 9 hour 2 leg international commuter.
