First, from a union perspective you have to be very careful what you advocate publicly - as I understand it, ALPA can be held responsible for your actions and in this case your actions would not be legally following the contract. I don't know if bringing back the furloughees would help or hurt the company at this point - I've heard compelling arguments both ways, but in general I agree that the average line value has to be much higher before the company truly needs to. It seems that management has decided it is more efficient to utilize reserves for excess open time, but I think when things get busy this summer, the current policy will bite them in the arse. Just my humble opinion.
With the line values I think they are trying to keep all pilots,reserves and line holders, as close to 75 hrs as they can. With all the red arrows the lineholders can't swap or pick up much opentime leaving it to the reserves.
Like you said the current policy might not work this summer that's why I think they will increase line values, reduce the number of lineholders, and increase reserve coverage.
