You're not even close. First off, ASA isn't a jobs program, it's a business running in a very competitive environment. Bringing back all the furloughs will not help the company, the employees or the stockholders. Sure it would great to get them back but when they are needed. I've said it 20 times in here, the furloughs aren't coming back until line values exceed 90 hours and the reserves are being flown over block, is that really too big a concept for some of you to understand? It doesn't do any of the employees a favor by bringing back more pilots that aren't needed, it adds to our costs and makes us less competitive forcing us to 'loose' more flying resulting in even fewer jobs until the cycle continues to our demise. Whine all you want that I'm a 'management hack' or a 'line holder that doesn't care about the furloughs' but you're only making assumptions to make yourself feel better, more importantly what you assume isn't at all true. We're living in an adult world where every dollar counts, we're with a good company that is effectively using it's assets. If you had any business sense you would understand that. </rant>

I don't know if bringing back the furloughees would help or hurt the company at this point - I've heard compelling arguments both ways, but in general I agree that the average line value has to be much higher before the company truly needs to. It seems that management has decided it is more efficient to utilize reserves for excess open time, but I think when things get busy this summer, the current policy will bite them in the arse. Just my humble opinion.

While I appreciate the gesture, I don't think this will help. First, from a union perspective you have to be very careful what you advocate publicly - as I understand it, ALPA can be held responsible for your actions and in this case your actions would not be legally following the contract. Also, as much as we tend to hate scheduling, they are generally abused both by us and management and really don't deserve it when we vent our frustration on them for management's policies!

Like you said the current policy might not work this summer that's why I think they will increase line values, reduce the number of lineholders, and increase reserve coverage.

I believe they just check to make sure everyone is in good standing and then it should be posted fairly quickly... I believe the MEC can look at the current vote as it stands today, they just can't say anything.
