They don't care if you stay the second year and make more money, or leave and they replace you with someone who will incur a training expense but be paid less than you. The second year pay raise may not exactly equal the training expense but it is close.
This is true but often times ppl at Mesa leave in the first 2 months...It is kind of hard to justify 8K - 12K of training just to fly for 1 - 2 months. Those guys that make it a year at Mesa will gain upwards of 500 places on the global seniority. For a company with only 2000 pilots, that is pretty substantial.
