You may be able to do IRR, the paperwork should clearly specify if you have to remain a SELRES. If it just says you agree to serve three years, then IRR would work.

If you are an O5 I suspect IRR would work, otherwise they would have to guarantee you pay status which they can't really do with O5+ since the process is in the hands of a board.
