GI Bill Commitment
I transferred the GI Bill to my kids and signed a three year commitment--til 2012 but have 20 good years as a Reservist Mid 2011. Anyone know what I am committed to? Can I finish in the IRR? Can I finish as a CAP guy or ALO--ie points only?

You may be able to do IRR, the paperwork should clearly specify if you have to remain a SELRES. If it just says you agree to serve three years, then IRR would work.
If you are an O5 I suspect IRR would work, otherwise they would have to guarantee you pay status which they can't really do with O5+ since the process is in the hands of a board.
CAP..I doubt it.

From my understanding of the new rule, you have to commit as a regular reservist (or active duty for that matter). However, if you are near retirement then there are other factors invloved as well. Click the GI BILL link below for more info about transfering the benefits to children and spouses.

My question is what is additional service? IRR, CAP, ALO?

I don’t mean to highjack the thread but had a question about the GI Bill and didn’t think it worth starting a whole new thread..
Can anyone help me understand what options if any are available to someone going into the AF for student loan repayment? I have a friend that’s a tech sergeant and he said something about you can use the GI Bill to pay back some of your student loan debt but he wasn’t real clear…

I would call your student loan lenders and see if there are any programs to reduce/postpone interest while on AD. There definitely are some options when you're deployed... and you will be deployed. And even if you can't work a good deal with your loans, use the extra $$ from combat pay and tax exemption to pay down the principal.
