I teach at KLOU... the hourly rate in a relatively new 172 is $174 wet/dual. Yes I tell students it's about 8-9k to get the ticket. Most wince. Back in 1990 I paid almost 3.5k,, acounting for inflation, it's really about the same. My feeling is that if 9k is too much, don't do it. Why spend a small fortune to climb into a cramped, hot aluminum capsule that could probably kill you if you make the slightest mistake?
Plenty of other entertainment avenues available for $9K.
