I teach at KLOU... the hourly rate in a relatively new 172 is $174 wet/dual. Yes I tell students it's about 8-9k to get the ticket. Most wince. Back in 1990 I paid almost 3.5k,, acounting for inflation, it's really about the same. My feeling is that if 9k is too much, don't do it. Why spend a small fortune to climb into a cramped, hot aluminum capsule that could probably kill you if you make the slightest mistake?

They oughta wince. I paid 4K in 2000 @ KPDK, so it wasn't like I went to Montana to get my tickets. The inflation is out of control. It is NOT the same. People's incomes haven't increased with inflation, only costs. 3.5 to 4 in ten years, then 4k to 9k in the next 10? That's not the same at all. That's runaway inflation. The same 150/172 I used for training cost $50/$60 wet then; probably $90/110 now.
There are still ways to obtain your tickets on the cheap, but they're getting skosh. Where there's a will, there's a way around that 9K...
