Yeah, with the 55 tonne limit, a DC-9-34/-40/-50 are all exclueded. Their normal MGTOW is 121,000 lbs, while 55 tonnes is 122,000 lbs. I'm 99% sure that EK did it on purpose to exclude those airframes (and it probably also excludes the 737-200).
I don't know whether it was on purpose or not (a lot of their employees think they're too stupid to do this, or stupid enough TO do it). Whatever the reason, they're paying a big price, it seems.
