I think that is a myth or not as bad as the stories say they are. Kinda like th "things" that go on in the san fran hotel.
Not a myth, and neither are the stories about SFO...we almost got kicked of that place.
I agree that the frasca training is a good idea, unless you happen to be current (and IMC proficient) in a steam gauge light twin, King Air, or similar.
