Then listen to other's advice whether you like or not. Some of them have been in your shoes.

That article also gives a couple tips on ways you can make yourself more competitive.

Anyone can go out in buy block hours, but why don't you find quality flying that you can actually gain different experience from. Teaching is a good start. I have a feeling they don't just look at the number of hours, but what you did to get those hours. Think in ways to make yourself more competitive that way.
