What a crock of (#$*!! I am a ground officer and always had a call sign from my ensign days on at all of my VF and VFA squadrons. Sometimes they were cool and sometimes you ended up with one you didn't care for. If you showed that it bothered you then it would only get worse. One good liberty incident was always a sure way to get your call sign changed.

I think the best time ever was when Admiral Mullen was our BG Commander. We named him "shoe" and he HATED IT! Every time we had focsle (SP sorry I am not a shoe) follies we would all chant it as he walked up. He went to the CO's and it didn't stop, he went to CAG and it didn't stop, he went to the CO of the boat and it didn't stop. Finally he stopped coming. Each time he would complain, we would get a good "talking to" and then be right back at it. OH how I miss the old navy.
