Yeah, he should have known better, I think they address that in GMT...every year.

OR MAYBE this guy really did do a crappy job and the CO gave him the FitRep that he deserved and he has a perfect built-in excuse to file a complaint.

You probably don't go from Navy chief / LDO select to total dirt bag in one reporting cycle. This guy had 10-12 years of documented history, and it had to be pretty good to get where he was. It would be awfully big coincidence if he did a complete 180 at that exact moment. I'm not a real big fan of the guy, but he probably does his job, which was the point in question.

You need to re-read the article. The IG substantiated reprisal by the CO.

"Department of Navy Naval IG substantiates the allegation that the then commanding officer of VFA 136 gave Crowston an unfavorable fitness report in reprisal for a sexual harassment and hostile work environment complaint he filed..."

This finding was made during the appeal (in which he added a complaint of reprisal). It's unclear if any of the original findings were overturned or confirmed by the appeal...

The Navy now says at least one of Crowston's complaints has been confirmed.

I'm guessing that aiding the investigation was the fact that he had 16 years of excellent fitreps and then all of a sudden a bad fitrep.

I am far from supporting Crowston's lifestyle, but it's clear to me that the CO is one of those "who just doesn't get it". Hell, there were plenty of policies I didn't agree with. I b!%*ed plenty, but I never blatantly violated said policies, as a supervisor/CO or otherwise. I honestly don't know how I would have handled repeal of DADT if I was still in....but I would have chosen to get out rather than stay in and disobey a direct order by violating established policy...

I cannot imagine a bunch of SEAL's and SWCC's saying anything mean to him.
They probably won't say much of anything to him, mean or otherwise. They also probably wouldn't bring him inside of SEAL traditions or customs unless he was, you know, an actual SEAL or something.

You can't bring an outsider into your tight knit group, humiliate him, demean him, and be mean to him and then expect him not to retaliate in some way. I'm almost certain that this call sign night was not "all in good fun." If it was, then the target selection was unsat - they should have saved that for one of their own. I find it hard to be sympathetic here. I've participated in five or six call sign nights, and I know how they can get. But we never targeted a non-flyer for our biggest bombs, they were always aimed at friends and fellow flyers and we definitely never got too close to the truth. Because that would've just been being a ****.
