I have read the presidents message a few times now and I keep coming up with the same thing. Are they Crazy?

IF Comair is going to be reduced to 500 pilots (or so) over the course of 2011 and 2012.... AND they want pay concessions of a serius magnitude now (immediately of course), Lets figure this out.

There are about 1100 pilots flying the line. This number will be reduced to 500 pilots (again... approximate). This means that 600 pilots are going to be asked to vote yes to a pay cut for the 7 to 18 months that they remain employees. Why would these people do this? They are losing their jobs anyway.

Now lets focus on the 500 pilots that remain employed. How many of them are over age 60? Already secure with retirement. Planned on retiring at 60 but now get to have a little extra cash and medical for a few years. Why would this group agree to a pay cut? If the company folds up they retire.... and get unemployement for a million years from Obama. They have absolutely no reason to work for less.

This entire Bendoritis message makes no sense. If they want paycuts... you dont tell your employees that more than half of them will be unemployed in 7 months or so. This leads me to believe one of two things.

1) They are planning on shutting the place down no matter what... and they know that nobody will agree to pay cuts (from the pilot side) and this is just a PR move so that they can tell the media that they tried to "save" the place and everything is the unions fault.

2) This is a negotiation tactic pure and simple. What they plan on doing has nothing to do with the pilot contract and never has.

I do however think that Comair Flight attendants making more than mainline Delta is a bit of an embarrassment. I had an elderly aunt who had a sign on her front door that read "This house is operated for the comfort and convenience of our dog." I think comair can replace Dog with Flight Attendant and hang the same sign.
