I know quite a few guys from the tanker and AWACS world that would get a bad letter from me, just as I wouldn't have asked one of the guys at Fedex that I flew with in the AF for a recommendation, as he is poorly thought of by the higher ups.
BTW - Once I thought I only knew three people at Fedex, but once I got here, there were scores of folks from UPT, various assignments, excercises, schools, and even a guy I went to high school with. You sure didn't sound like you were trying too hard.
I did my job search in late 2004 while I was on active duty. The problem I had was that I went to UPT in 1999. I knew quite a few guys from my time as a young copilot who were hired by the majors. I did not know anyone who was hired after 9/11 because there were not any. Most of my initial IPs who were hired by the majors were furloughed in 2004 when I was applying to the airlines. The few friends I had that went to FDX/UPS were being swamped with requests from peers who were looking for work after being furloghed. These guys were a lot older than me and not my "peers" while on AD. I managed to get the contacts made and the recs but it was tough.
I do not agree that a guy on AD now should know a lot of people at UPS/FDX. Shaggy should swallow his pride and contact anyone he knows. I cold called some guys I had not had contact with for 5 years. It was hard and some of them politely declined to help, but others came through in a big way. I would mind my P's and Q's, however, even on a supposed anonymous board.
