Default DO is possible / UPS Help!!

I spent 12 years active duty, in the tanker (135), Also an IP, EP, and ADO. A guy who was considered a fast burner could have made DO. I got out to take care of sick family members. You could become DO if you were among the only majors or at a base people were trying hard to avoid. Like Grand Forks. It really is a matter of timing. I ended up as a leader (at McConnell )a matter of chance. So it can happen. How you do at it is up to you and what you learned along the way. I also have been applying at FDX and UPS. It took a 7 months of networking to get my first interview with Alaska. No luck, 3 months later came AirTran, and SWA. I have a job and start soon. I still want to work for either UPS/FDX.

Last week I got a call from UPS after having my resume in for only 3 weeks. I knew no one there but put a resume in because a friend of a friend of a friend suppossedly got hired without recs. Low and behold a call!!!.

FDX I have had a resume in with them for a year. No luck. That said, I networked and got three rec's ( I went to OBAP(a white member), Air Inc etc.) I focused on FDX because I knew 1 guy there. I had also heared of long wait time in the UPS training pool. UPS is hiring so don't alway believe the rumors. OBAP has great job fairs and really helped out.

Long / Short they are both great companies and I will consider myself lucky to wear either of their colors. My pointers are this. Be patient, put the time in, and realise no one owes you anything, you have to put your time in.

While you are waiting go Guard or Reserve (I have done both since leaing active duty). You can build your time and units are hiring junior Majors with your expirience.

Everyone else!!! Help
Anyone have any pointers for my UPS interview over the normal gouge?
Any good simulator prep in the Los Angeles area?

Not trying to hi-jack the thread but: Does anyone know if UPS prefers heavy drivers (or should I say, pilots with crew experience) over single seaters?

I ask because I have an app in with a rec, and hours and quals well above the mins, and no skeletons. The words I've been hearing is that they're really short on pilots and it seems like people on this board are getting called for interviews after a very short time. All my time is F-16 though.

I've also notice that I've had a difficult time finding UPS employees in the F-16 community.

Reference my earlier post concerning sim/interview prep with Adam Hughes.

If I were you, I'd fly to SDF a day early, rent a car, and drive to CVG the day before your actual interview for the interview/sim prep session. Trust me, it will be the smartest, and most productive thing you could do with your time and money. It worked great for me. Good luck.

Shaggy,

I would think that if you want something bad enough, you'll get it. If you want to fly for FX, and its not working out, you aren't trying hard enough. I'd give anything for that opportunity. I'm not much of an expert, but i would think that job security would be quite a relief in this business. If FX sucks, then get down with the brown.

There are quite a few fighter types running around UPS. I know of one F-16 guy in the 75 training dept, a few managers and know of many others.

From what I was told by HR, the selection process for getting interviews in computerized now. I do not know criteria they use or if the size of the plane is considered.

Preemptive notch - please do not hijack this thread into yet another "heavy pilots are better airline pilots/If you had studied harder you would have gotten fighters" discussion. That has been beaten to death

Boogie- I agree with Archer on Adam Hughes - I owe him my job at UPS! I am not getting any kickbacks for saying this, just my honest opinion. His interview prep was awesome I felt like I knew each question before it was asked; same with the sim. prep, very thorough and right on the money. He rocks! 513-604-3906 or [email protected]

With both UPS and FedEx having over 10,000 apps on file...........why take the chance?
Would you show up to an interview with an expired 1st class medical? Of course not! Just go retake it! Good Luck!
