can't really find anything in the regs requiring that the check instructor document in the "remarks" section of the student's logbook that it was a failed evaluation of their piloting skills.
as far as the required FAA documentation (logbook), there's possibly no way that a "half-way clued interviewer" would be able to distiguish between a stage check that was "converted" to a lesson versus one that was "incomplete" due to wx, atc delay, etc.
i'm not singing the graces of the system, but the FAA only really cares about EOCs or FAA pilot evaluations (ie checkrides)
