Btw, what does IFR traffic do? Do they do the same, or do they receive the information from ATC?
I get ATIS on Com2 as soon as I'm in range. Just have both radios set at about the same volume and listen to both until I get the ATIS and make sure I don't miss a call for me on Com1.
ATC normally does not supply the wx info other than most recent altimeter, but probably would if asked and they had the time and you had a good reason for not getting it yourself.
