hey man I wouldn't worry so much. This business is full of uncertainties, but if you always run away at the first sign of trouble you probably won't get very far. My advise to you is apply all over, and when you get offers, go to the place that best suits you at the time. Don't make your decision on the basis of what COULD happen or what MIGHT happen. I agree. The next few years there will be all kinds of stuff going on with regionals. XJT right now is a gamble like any place, however if things turn out well for XJT---you are in at the right time and will be in great shape. WORSE case, you get hired, work for a while, get an SIC type (which is worthless--but shows you can get through 121 training), and end up going somewhere else.
As for me and most people I know.... get the job, figure out what you want to do (i.e. major, lcc, fractional, cargo, etc.) and go from there.
