Commute to a 4 day or do locals and two days living in domicile. What about sitting reserve? In a craspad or at home? Are the 4 days commutable on both ends? Will they be with the new work rules? The pay is going to suck regardless, find the best QOL.
I only commuted for a while, but didn't find it very enjoyable. Usually had to go the day before, or come home the day after. There were often flights I couldn't make it on because they were full. That meant a minimum of 4 nights away from home a week. When I was a newhire on the EMB out of PSP, I held locals and was home every night. Living in domicile 10 out of nearly 11 years here, has allowed me to do locals, two days and stand-ups for 7-8 of those years. Commuters, typically do nothing but 4 days.
If you were willing to move to Chicago, it would be different. Eagle or SkyWest, it doesn't really matter. Arguing about which one is best is like arguing about who has the nicest trailor at the trailor park. Figure out which one will get you PIC time the fastest, so you can get hired at a Legacy as soon as the retirements kick in. Eagle use to take forever, it may not stay that way. SkyWest use to be pretty quick, but that hasn't been the case lately.
