Even in flight schools in Japan meke cadets use white gloves, because if you are not using the gloves during your check ride, JCAB check airman can have poor image of you, and that can lead you to fail your exam. It is a tradition from Japanese aviation. Personaly I like the tradition, if you look at Japanese registered aircraft`s cockpit, they are all really clean!
