DPA wants to split apart from other pilots and the largest pilots' union.
Splitting apart is the exact opposite of unification.
Unification is the action that provides unity.
Unity is the key concept behind the word "union".
A union that splits apart is no longer providing unity.
The mission of a union is to provide unity.
A union that does not fulfill its mission is a failure.
Therefore the idea of DPA is a failure.
"Independent union" is an oxymoron.
DALPA is a union.
ALPA (as in national) is an
association of unions. DPA would be a union consisting of Delta pilots.
Independent union is not necessarily an oxymoron... it is more thank likely a redundant term.. but not oxymoronic...
