Agree 100%. I deviated on the back end of a trip that finished in ERW and DH'd home without taking the hotel rest period. The next day nothing was going to ANC because of the volcano. Guys were getting multiple days of draft because the company couldn't get them back to base. I got nothing extra and have no problem with it.
I bet you would have had a problem had you deviated and also got stuck in ERW due to the volcano. Having been previously burnt myself, it's potential scenarios like this that lead me to wait until the last possible minute(typically as I'm boarding my flight home) to deviate.
