I believe however that the upcoming UPS/IPA contract negotiations will not go so smoothly. There are MANY issues. SCS. FQS's. With out these two issues being resolved I do not think there will be an agreement.
There is also the different mentality in upper management between the two. FedEx wants their employees to be both productive and enjoy coming to work. They don't want to add the stress of something like this. UPS on the other hand uses their "labor department" as a weapon. They defend their "turf" accordingly as well.
The next contract there will be a very detailed description of what FQS's can and cannot do. Also it will specifically talk about the SCS equation and apply limitations to it. Otherwise any ratification among members it is surely doomed to fail.
Unless they kick in a really big signing bonus like the last time
