While I did not send in a card for DPA, I agree wholeheartedly with the concept of an inhouse union. This is not because I think an inhouse would necessarily be stronger initially, but because ALPA national is such an unmitigated failure for the Delta pilots in so many ways...I dont think this is the time to rehash those failures, they've been covered at length here and in other threads.
DPA IMO has been succesful because DALPA is now more responsive and communication is greatly improved. I credit DPA (partially) with council 20s FPL initiative and the LECs chairs stance on outsourcing. I also think there have been improvements and harder lines taken at other LECs.
Look at the makeup of ALPA and the populations of pilots at the other airlines. If DPA had succeeded, there would have been a huge sucking sound at ALPA as 12500 pilots exited.
I also think if DPA had started organizing after recieving more and better guidance from CAPA, the card drive would have been more successful. I am sure there are many pilots, like me, whodid not send inthe card, but who also recognize the fatal flaws within ALPA.
scambo, fine, if we spot them all of those achievements, will they go away now, and start the healing process? The sooner our group is unified, the more effective we can become in achieving what every one of us wants.
Continuing a drive when it is obvious to all it will fail is very counter-productive. Take up the discussions immediately after C2012 is signed, if desired, but the efforts should be called off now.
