Duty time starts when you first check in at the airport for your first flight, and ends when you finish your last leg + 15 minutes. Take that time - 10, 12, 14 hours, whatever it is, and divide it be 2, and that is your duty pay.
So, if you spent 13:00 hours on duty, at AWAC your minimum pay for the day would be 7.5 hours. If you flew 8.5 hours, your pay would be 8.5.
Duty rigs just allow you to make money while the company is being inefficient with having you sit around at airports all day.
