I have never been in the military, but I would guess if one is on active duty in the military, deployed outside the US of A, it is just a weeeee bit different then getting a civilian job in a foreign country. For one, there is pretty good proof you did what you said you did when outside the US of A.

In regards to the requirement that one lives in the US for the last 5 years: I personally didn't jump on a opportunity to get a job outside the US for this very reason. I wanted to be in compliance for with FedEx's requirements when the time came. I think the 5 year requirement is silly (but there must be a good reason, right!? ) but it is what it is and not much applicants can do about it! Calling and complaining to the hiring department is most likely NOT going to change this requirement, but you can try. Let me know how it goes!
