If I were running staffing and were concerned with people taking the CAL job and then leaving for a UAL recall--I would call back some slight overage to the UAL side to keep staffing healthy, then call whatever was needed to the CAL side. This would allow CAL to get utility out of the tng for the UAL hires as well as have the UAL side adequately staffed.
I think the MEC is so locked in on the contract as then end-all/be-all that they have lost sight of the bigger picture. It is not that we don't want a contract, on paper it does solve a lot of things, however, how many more months/years will this take? Not advocating a botched job, but there are things we can work on improving, especially as it relates to furloughees, instead of having this "laser" myopic focus on the second coming of C2K.
My impression from Wendy is ANYTHING furloughed related is wrapped up in contract negotiations and on hold. I can't help but thinking that this is the scenario we have laid out for ourselves. We are clearly just another bargaining chip on the table and nothing will happen until then. We are the hostages.
Hope it will be a good one, meanwhile, people have gone through their life savings and still on unemployment while we wait for all of our ills to be cured. I think the contract will have some turds in it, and probably not live up to our expectations. Hope not, but that has been our track record over the last 10 years. Meanwhile, entire careers are vanishing before our eyes as weeks turn into months then into years.
Your last statement is exactly what a lot of us have been advocating on the UAL side since last year.
Anyway, I've rambled on enough, back to my medication-
Best wishes-
