Yes. I
am making light of his statement. Democracy, including the representation kind used by our union, requires
participation. Participate is an
action verb. The notion that you can influence the goals and priorities of your union by sitting on your butt, paying attention when it's convenient to you, is silly.
Before your panties bunch up even tighter, I agree that ALPA needs to make more of the information presented at meetings available to pilots who WOULD attend, but are working. I also think ALPA needs to be more flexible when it comes to scheduling meetings. Nothing in the rules prohibits LECs from holding more than one meeting in a month. We trust what we know more about, so more communication makes us stronger.
But the simplistic idea that live web based meetings from gavel to gavel would be safe and effective for the participants is not well thought out.
How will the DPA conduct meetings? Who knows...they don't have a constitution.
