The Kindle is approved per the GOM, but must be purchased by the crew member. The company is going to either switch to buying the Kindle for all crew shortly, or go ahead and try and get the iPad approved by the FAA. I'm not sure how you reach that conclusion... have you seen a new kindle? They're awesome for actually reading books, it looks like paper and the battery lasts a lifetime... now they won't use apps or display fancy color pictures, but I don't need that for my FOM/AFM anyway. Kindle over Ipad for that use any time, before you even consider that apple is the evil empire....
