Default Charts+

Over at Mesa, we are looking at transitioning to Charts+. Someone posted Air Wisconsin uses the charts.

Is this true? If so, what has been your experience? Charts+ seems to consume more battery power than Jepp. How are you compensating for that? Portal batteries? Flight deck power?

They suck compared to Jepp, but you get used to it. Uses about the same amount of battery as the jepp app in my opinion. We are required by the FAA to have a backup battery. No power in our -200.

Company issued backup battery? Did they leave ownship active? The way they reduced power consumption on the Jepp was to turn the GPS off.

Yes. No GPS in our iPads. They seem to suck battery way faster than JeppFD but maybe it’s just me. A 12 hour duty day with judicious screen locking seems to burn about 90% of the battery. Seems like it’s sucking up a lot of juice for basically being a glorified PDF reader but that’s just me.

Apparently your judicious screen locking isn't so good. I can go the first two 12 hour duty days and end at 88%

I can make it through two 12 hour duty days with a 30 minute FDP extension on the first and a 2 hour FDP extension on the second and end at 89%.

If you denied both those extensions like everyone should you wouldn’t need to charge for day 3.

OH MAN, I’ve been doing it ALL WRONG!

So you just tell them no every single time you get an FDP extension? That’s awesome. I’ve never met anyone here that has never accepted an extension, ever, even a 30 minute one. But you just say no? Every time? Since everyone should?

So cool.

Must be even cooler to have talked to every pilot on property about whether or not they’ve accepted an extension. Fatigued and hotel. They wanna build schedules that are 20 minutes shy of max FDP to begin they can deal with the consequences. Not my problem. The rules were written for a reason and science backs the fact that decision making deteriorates beyond those periods defined in 117. Maybe we wouldn’t have 5 leg 12 hour days if it started becoming a duty issue for crews. Mainline doesn’t take extensions. It’s regional bull****.

So you never accept an extension, and just fatigue out EVERY time?
