Yes and that's was the worst year in recent history! You are using outlier data at best, and it doesn't even prove your point bc the rate is still lower than COVID. It's even worse than the worst flu year bc we are almost halfway to that number, and again....you are stuck at home and so is almost everyone. It would be way worse if we weren't.

Well it does prove my point it's more comparable to the flu, which even you proceeded to compare death numbers against. Except you conveniently left out the 80k death year which at this point is highly comparable to. Unless you'd like to try and compare it to an ILS down to minimums again.

It wasn't me that compared it to an ILS...

Fine let's take your number, the worst the flu has been in decades.

80000/12 months = 6666 flu deaths per month on avg.
35000/3.5 months = 10000 COVID deaths per month.

That's with intense mitigation via social distancing. You take that away and who knows. Happy?

The CDC says 80k during the winter months. Take winter months and divide by 80k and see what you get.

Fine. But then I don't have to count January or half of Feb since spread in the US didn't become widespread until mid-Feb. First US death Feb 29

80K/6 = 13,333
35K/2 = 17,500

Here's the equation:
FLU deaths < COVID deaths + state shutdowns

Definition of flu season per CDC: Starts in October, peaks in Dec, Jan, Feb, may continue through May.

2018 season specifically: “During the 2017-2018 season, influenza-like-illness (ILI) activity began to increase in November, reaching an extended period of high activity during January and February nationally, and remained elevated through the end of March.”

Half a month on either side, you get 6 months. Or more. Thought I wasn’t prepared?
