Ad hominem attack towards no one in particular. Way to further the conversation with your overwhelming intellect. Maybe you'd care to grace the forum with more than a three second soundbite? But I'm sure you're changing hearts and minds doing it your way.

Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Germany, etc., etc.

When we (our crew) fly into HKG, for example, we get our temperature taken and are handed a package with a Cvirus mask, gloves, wipes and a thermometer. We fill out a form identifying where we will be, and what our phone number is. We are given a phone number to call if we have any symptoms. The "normal" (non-exempt) arrivals get a 14 day quarantine in a hotel, that is enforced. If you fly into China, DWC and ??? you get a CVirus test at the airport, upon arrival, and you are in quarantine if you test positive. We have had at least 3 crew in quarantine, as some countries didn't allow us (crew) to be exempt from the mandatory quarantine.

Every time I have entered the US since Mar, there is nothing. No temps taken, no equipment, no questions, no quarantine for anyone. At home in WI, I cannot buy a Cvirus mask or a thermometer.

I was thinking the same too. Although we do need some sort of substantial IQ to operate in aviation this thread makes it clear it’s not enough for other stuff. The reason the statistics don’t look too menacing is because we’re doing exactly what some here don’t want to do. It’s only been like 2 weeks since we all started to take this seriously, people have to be prepared for this to have years of effect.

People talk crap about the majors requiring college degrees, but it does help ensure at least some level of critical thinking....

Release the trolls, who also happen to be experts in every field, from virology to politics to education.

This sounds fantastic. Testing here was and is a fiasco exacerbating this problem.

For all the shelter in place folks out there, I'm really curious:

When do you think it will be acceptable to leave?

If there's no cure for another 12-18 months, that means shelter in place until then. Otherwise it's all for nought, because people are going to catch the virus and die.

Is that what you are prepared to do? Is that what we as a society are prepared to do? Can we make it that long? Won't "essential activities" just wind up spreading it anyway?

I'm honestly curious what you think.

This guy gets it.

We can’t hide for a year.

We aren’t really hiding anyways. 3/4 of the people I know are “essential” employees and are out everyday.

Don’t give me the BS about how you may inadvertently spread it to some old person or someone at risk.

If those people are truly that scared they can literally get everything they need to survive delivered to their front door step.

When the government gets a robust testing and tracing program in place, a support structure is created for the very high risk, and masks are widely available. The timeline for that depends on how quickly state and federal officials get their **** together. Then, open up the floodgates and test people at large events or gatherings like concerts, airports, or large workplaces. Depending on the length of time the tests take it could be a random sample of the people going in. Offer antibody tests, those people who have already had it and recovered get a card that exempts them from further testing. When cases are found, aggressive quarantine and contact tracing measures are put into place. This would be the best compromise in my opinion- you don’t let this rampage through the population but you also don’t murder the economy.

South Korea has done this and they’ve done an incredible job. People there are going back to work and living semi-normal lives.
