Had an interview with Air Wisconsin this week, very nice group of people, seems like an awesome company. Interview was very laid back and I really enjoyed it. I was informed they are hiring into a pool for August classes. Thought I'd share for those who are interested in getting hired here.

Is DT still doing sim training for AWAC? Love that guy! Never laughed so much at an engine failure in my life.

Trips to the airport
Being new to the airlines, and looking for a place to stay in ORF. I was wondering typically how many days a month would you have to travel to the airport? Both on reserve and when on the line. That would help me decide how far from the airport I could be. Thanks.
|
On reserve is anyones guess. Crashpads can be found to solve that issue. Otherwise as a line holder expect to have 4 trips a month. Drive it or commute in and get a hotel, or crashpad it.

On reserve it's hard to say, regular rsv you could go once and be gone the entire sequence, if you are ready rsv plan on driving over to the airport every day (5) days. Keep in mind we have a two hour call out on regular rsv so you don't have to live right by the airport. A lot of people who move to ORF seem to live in Virginia Beach or Norfolk close to the airport, BUT if you are willing to go towards Chesapeake or even as far south as the NC state line the cost of living could be a good bit less. From the NC state line it takes me exactly 30 min to the crew lot, and thats in normal traffic. Whatever you do I would avoid living anywhere in that area that you have to go through a tunnel to get to work. You will hate your life in a hurry. Of course if you are just planning on commuting then a crash pad is the way to go, keep in mind ORF trips are RARELY commutable on both ends and more often than not they are just flat out not commutable.

Thanks for the responses. Will be heading out to ORF next week to find a place to live. Planning on relocating there...hopefully I'll get ORF out of training otherwise I'll be in a world of hurt. I hear the next class date is stil on for beginning of August and ORF is still an easy base to get. Anyone hear anything different.

I certainly wouldn't count your chickens before they are hatched.....August in a lifetime away in this business.
|
Even if you were to start class Aug 1st, you wouldn't be in base until late September at the earliest.
