Ploy or Plot?
After reading the latest JNC ledger, I can't help but feel played once again. In this e-mail the union states, "we are encouraged that management is beginning to see the necessity of having the pilots on board if this merger is going to fly". Seriously? The ship has sailed long ago buddy! Once again, we fold and stand down with the orange lanyards and pound our chest with an email stating that our MEC finally got around to filing pilot harassment grievances. A day late and a dollar short, don't you think? And all this after numerous pilots were chastized in the name of "orange" in public by management pilots, the CEO himself, VP of Flight ops, and even a wife of a one of our management pilots. That management pilot should get his kitchen monkey under control!
During my time with this company, they have never once done the right thing and I don't expect them to change now. In my humble opinion, it's a ploy on company's behalf to maintain a smooth operation during the holidays. Let history speak for itself. Unfortunately for both parties, their actions have lost a good majority of this pilot group in my opinion. The ship has indeed sailed away a long ago and has past the CP. Delta, please acquire this sinking ship. |
Ploy or plot? Why not both?
This pilot group loses all the time. We are losers. We bring it upon ourselves. Anyway, like you said, the ship sailed a long time ago. I know this management team to be a bunch of back-stabbing liars. I bet they would love to run a real sweatshop. They are snakes and cannot be trusted one bit. At least most of us know what type of people we are dealing with. They have created a toxic environment and have undermined us... and we have allowed them to do so. I hope they are ready to pay the price for their practices. Aside from the good company boys and girls, the rest of us are fed up and tired. We don't give a damn about the company or the brand. Hell, the brand has no identity right now... they may as well put a picture of a chicken with its head cut off on the tails of our airplanes. No leadership and no long-term vision or solutions. They are constantly trying to put out fires that they have created. They seem to think short-term: Let's get through the summer, let's get through Thanksgiving, let's get through Xmas & New Years, etc. We have big operational problems and they waste their time worrying about lanyards. We have a pretty meh product. We have old ratty terminals and old ratty jetways. I think we have reached our peak as a company and are on a downward slide. It doesn't have to be this way. But, the execs and BOD are drunk on record profit margins and wanting to look good to shareholders and Wall Street. They keep wanting to cut cost and diminish the product, all the while trampling further on employee morale. I suppose they'll just punch their tickets home if this thing actually tanks. They really don't have much to lose. They keep making their bonuses. If the company fails, they still get to retire and cash in further. If the execs don't retire after they run this place into the ground, then they will easily slide into another exec position at another company. /rant |
I don't want to wear blue because management put on a dog and pony show with schedulers and planners. I want to wear blue because when I see actual evidence things are getting better. Until then, it should be orange and nothing else.

I love reading the comments in the alaskasworld article about the “battle for Seattle”. Almost every single comment mentions the lack of direction. |
Yes, most of the comments are from FAs & CSAs and they are scathing. Unfortunately, no one in the executive level is listening. Similar comments have been posted within the past several month in response to other articles, but Anglers just bury their heads in the sand.
As long as the performance metrics are within tolerances and they are saving a few bucks, that's all that matters. Plain old bean-counting... zero leadership. |

It literally doesn't even say the name of the airline on it. Whose idea was this??:confused: |

That livery is heinous. When I saw the article on PRAVDA (aka alaskasworld) and the artist's rendition, I thought "You've got to be ********** kidding me!"

You realize that most of the 2nd floor was Jet A for a long time.

You mean KF, TK, and a few others. Most Jet A guys are standup guys but some of the worst excuse for a human being come from Jet A. Jelly spine backstabbing sellouts come to mind. As for the ex-Jet A FAs, they are some of the finest human beings on the planet! |
Orange Lanyards outnumbered the management suck-ups by a healthy margin this morning...not sure about Seattle but elsewhere it was a beautiful sight
|
The mere fact that AAG took delivery of two A321NEO's with these "special paint schemes" (SF Giants and Most West Coast) WITHOUT VX or AS markings/logos/ANYTHING to show the general public this is an Alaska or Virgin America airplane says all you need to know about this place and who runs it. Our competition in the PNW and Cali really don't have to do anything special to beat us, they just have to sit around and wait for us beat ourselves which we're doing an outstanding job of right now.

So is AS's future to be like Ryan Air or Spirit? Hated by customers but profitable because of low fares and wages?

They run too lean an operation. Then they do a knee-jerk purchase of an airline with a whole different business model and identity. We're talking about oil and vinegar. The continued cost-cutting and the lack of leadership and vision is becoming more obvious to the other frontline employees. This is going to take a toll to a point that our customer service is going to suffer. So, eventually our passengers will hate us too. The inbreeding at Angle Lake prevents them from having a paradigm shift. Doesn't seem likely that we'll ever get a real CEO with vision and leadership. Our BOD would hate that. Instead, we have a Boy Scout former CPA who is tone deaf. His lieutenants are tone deaf BM and uber tone deaf yes-man VP of Flight Ops TK. I don't have much hope for things changing for the better. |
They would have if they hadn't run off Greg Saretsky in favor of the current administration.

Maybe, but you can't deny what he's accomplished up at WestJet. Remember it was his vision that got us off the West Coast and to Hawaii.

Brad has always creeped me out....Like the skin on the lotion or worse. Would always rather work for an A-hole who is upfront about it as Greg was than an A-hole who is a creeper and tries to hide behind a “mister nice guy” exterior....

Remember, BT was the CFO during Kasher. They are cut from the same mole and they bow to the same master-the BOD. The devil has many faces and this one has a smile and possesses cunning demeanor. Alaskan MEC fell head over heals in love with BT years ago. Like the Air Force, one has to complete a course, S.O.S (Sell One's Soul), to be promoted from ALPO to management.

And woe be unto you if you're an ALPA rep who doesn't sell out.

True story, waiting to go to Seattle from Chicago, older husband and wife sitting right next to me. As the Alaska plane pulls into the gate the old lady looks at the husband and said “I didn’t know Gerry Garcia had an airline”. I had to walk away I couldn’t stop from busting out laughing.
