I actually took a screen shot of the wrong page but the effect is the same. My beef is the 14 hour min rest for transoceanic flights. Somehow an airline that has nothing bigger than 737s has language covering “transoceanic flying” but there is an exception for the only transoceanic flying we do.

I've been on the NG and now Max for five years now in Canada and I'm in the process of converting my ATP and getting green card. Had my sights set on Alaska with a Portland base.
New contract negotiations start next year?
Anyone have an online copy of the agreement? How many hours hard time in the seat are guys seeing? Also where do the new hires get based on average?

Sorry, bad joke.
Nobody really knows how these bids will turn out but there are also AS pilots, even some PDX-AS pilots that want SFO.

The politician said you could see Russia from parts of Alaska. It is true, there are a pair of islands a couple of miles apart in the Bering Strait. One is part of Alaska. The other is a part of Russia. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diomede_Islands
Just trying to keep the facts straight, not to start a political debate.

You do a lot of 10-hour Hawaii layovers?
If Hawaii is "transoceanic" requiring a minimum 14-hour rest period, then any of Alaska's east coast to Seattle flights might as well require a minimum 14-hour rest period also, because they're all around 6.5 hours.
I would guess that "transoceanic" for contract purposes more generally refers to long flights and long duty days requiring augmented crew, and Hawaii from the west coast does not require those things, so it is specifically exempted.

Incidentally, that was the SNL comedian that said that one could see it from ‘her house’ in Wasilla, not a politician.
