I was trying to mimic the company emails that reassure us constantly that scope is not how we gain job security, it is only through growth that we gain that - and we cannot grow if we get scope.

I think what it tells us is simple…They will build the case that we should fly E195/A220 type aircraft at Alaska Airlines for a steep discount. We will be fools if we are played that way. We already fly that size in the B737-700/A319 for the same rate as the B737-9MAX/A321NEO. Many here will claim it is better to have them here than at Horizon and they would be short-sighted fools. Our contract essentially covers everything from 100 to 200 seats for the same price. It would be the reverse of scope and it is a page straight of Ford and Harrison

And if we don’t operate them for a song, then Horizon will.

Perhaps….Better to hold the line. For real scope and job protections. We have always been the UPS of passenger carriers……One pay rate for all sizes. It creates the best work environment for us and the most reliable training and scheduling environment for the airline.

I think you’re right. Eventually our smallest aircraft will be the 737-800. They’ll have Horizon fly whatever they ultimately choose in the 76+ seat range and Skywest will still be flying 175s.

The new Horizon base will probably fly most of the AS ANC flying other than Hawaii and that red eye to ORD.

The state of Alaska is not the economic powerhouse it once was. Cargo will do OK but it will no longer carry the passenger costs as it has forever. Anchorage for Alaska Airlines pilots, flight attendants and mechanics could dwindle for sure…Scope would at least force the additions at other bases for all of those employees. Scope wont ever protect a geographic base. And base reductions and closures like JFK will always be at the whim of the next group of crayon eating window licking myopic managers…
