AS Junior bases?

Hi all, just wondering the Junior bases currently at Alaska And what SFO looks like in that seniority.

Thanks in advance!

hard to say. Most Jr FO is SFO but they can easily get LA or SEA in next bid. Jr Captain switches between SFO and SEA every bid.

SFO is definitely Jr.

Thanks for the quick reply. That all sounds good👍👍

Base Trips

When comparing trips out of the junior bases like SEA and LAX, can you expect any big differences like a lot of Hawaii out of LAX for example? Or pretty much going to see much of the same across the network?

If you're JR it's a lot of red eye flying. About 25% of the flying in SEA is red eye. Not certain about LAX. Some JR flying is SE Alaska although some of it goes super senior.

Trip lengths and minimum days/month

Hey guys, a follow up question. What are the trips like out of SFO for junior seniority? What are the max/ min days per month?

What about reserve call out times?

Thanks!

sfo lines are horrible currently. 12 -14 off redeyes lot of 24 hour overnights aka start early spend all day at the overnight and get back late. Not commuter friendly. I believe United is hiring

While true quite a few of the SFO lines are red eye trips, it is and will be the fastest growing base for a while. If you got on now, you’d grow seniority quickly and as the base grows the line quality will improve too.

Trips everywhere in March look pretty rough.

Will be a pretty steady flow of fairly senior FO’s off the Bus who are planning to return to SFO when the Bus draws down…Since only UAL has a base in SFO it makes it reasonably commuter friendly for commuters east of the Cascades. The bottom likely will just stay the bottom as the base grows. Unlike every other airline in the country, we really only have one mega-base and then 4 outstations. Our entire network exists in one time zone in terms of pilot bases. We don't have junior bases or senior bases the way all other airlines have for that reason. If you live in SEA or one of the outposts then it is a good thing. Otherwise, as an outsider , all of our bases are equally undesirable. Only reliable thing at Alaska Airlines is pay day

I like how people have given up asking when 3rd step is coming.

Does not matter…it sits on the east edge of AST and SEA sits on the west edge of PST….

Won't need it as PBS is PFM.

I for one haven't forgotten, in fact I'm reminded of it every month when I have 2 fewer days to bid now

PurringRaccoon 02-06-2023 03:19 PM

I am guessing ANC is a senior base for new FOs? :(

Somewhat, although it isn’t unheard of to be offered to newhires. If you don’t get it initially, it should be attainable within a few months out of training.

I have a friend who is just finishing up OE this month and will be Seattle based. As long as OE finishes on time he’ll only spend 4 days on reserve in Seattle before his bid for Anchorage is effective.

I wouldn’t count on getting it in ground school. However, in the last bid October hires were able to hold it, and there were about a dozen FO vacancies.

"Growing" you are such a management hack. Any growth will just be replacing what was cut from SFO, given to the RJ's.
Go back to your office and stop blowing smoke up everyones %#=#.

…don’t blow a coronary…. How odd an expression.

Don’t have a coronary makes better sense.

So sorry, please excuse my poor choice of wording. I did skip heart day in medical school…

What is reserve like as a new hire? Im in PDX, but from what I can see I would be SEA based initially since PDX is a little senior. The commute up to SEA is easy enough, but if on reserve, what would that look like and how long to be off reserve?

the Pdx sea commute is a pain so many commuters and the first flights to cancel when things hit the fan

PDX went to new hires not long ago. Shouldn’t take long to hold it. As far as reserve out of SEA I don’t know. Might be less stressful to drive, the 2.5 hour call out might be cutting it a little close for comfort though.

No problem. My grandfather had a massive aortic aneurysm that ruptured, with no signs. Sudden and fatal. That was in 1943. My dad was on a ship to Europe with his outfit. He was not able to get back for the funeral.

Just wondering if there's an update to Junior bases? Still looking like SEA LAX and PDX?

The bid closes the 16th or 20th. Then we will know for sure how bad it will be.

Bid closed yesterday… the damage is already done. We will know how bad by the 19th.

SFO more than likely will be going junior.

Those prior FO vacancies in ANC are long gone, will have to see what it looks like in future bids.
