You know it's a bad idea when people you know at HA call you up and inquire hopefully if you're hearing any merger rumors.
I disagree. They are bargain hunters. Which is why they doubled down on the 737 Max while it was grounded.

Hawaiian is in distress, and cheaper than it's ever been. Also distressed airlines are much easier to get through the DOJ.

That's all true. But what are they going to do with the white elephant after they get a smokin' deal? Lose more money?

I think they'd be scared of acquiring a big financial albatross. And having to manage international ops to Asia.

I know 0 about business I lick windows and sling gear (and I’m mediocre at that at best) but if one were to actually have a thought experiment and Alaska wanted to buy HA would it not be cheaper to just acquire HAs assets (pilots and planes offer the pilots some deal to come over) in BK? If they are heading that way?

Edit: beat me to it above. Well said.

HA carries too much debt. Maybe if they declare bankruptcy, AS can swoop in from there but there isn't much point in buying a bunch of debt right now.

The head shed is the poster child for scared money.

And they do actually money. The issue is how long can they hide out in the PNW, as the last of a nearly extinct species (the regional legacy).

I'm sure even they know they need to do something. HA probably isn't it, at least not right now

Imagine the CEO of any company using this logic.

“Now that you’ve acquired a company that was on the verge of bankruptcy, what’s the plan?”

”To the moon brah! YOLO!”

Enjoy your profit check in February.
