Only if the east coast is in the PNW.

Skywest is the new mainline so it only makes sense.

Is there any substance to the years-old rumor about a San Diego pilot base?

Yes, there is a pilot base in SAN! Unfortunately it's Skywest's base, so that they can do almost all of our flying there.

I expected that answer… Fair enough. Hopefully the new contract yields some gains in scope.

So with the anticipated growth with new max’s coming into the fleet what are the reserve times looking like? I know they are probably a little off now after last year. Rumor has it reserves are being used almost everyday!

Most of the Max airplanes will most likely be replacements for the Airbus as they eventually leave and possibly some older 737s as well, personally I’m pretty skeptical when it comes to growth at Alaska. Most of Air Groups growth will continue to be at Horizon and Skywest.

There are 500 SEA FOs eligible to bid this month and 347 SEA lines. Assuming there are about 63 open flying lines to make the math easy (last month 62): 90 pilots on reserve. We are hiring 97 into Seattle of the 232 vacancies. So 7 lucky pilots off reserve. In the new hire group. Our next bid will be effective May.

So if you’re in the first couple classes, you may get open flying or the reserve zone you want. Not in the first couple classes - you are hoping the next bid is at least as large as this one. You could get lucky and be on reserve like I was for 6 months or you could be very unlucky and be on reserve for a long time.

I spoken with captains that were on reserve for 6 years as an FO. Like others have mentioned the Air Group is extremely conservative and most of the growth is at SkyWest and Horizon.
