Thx for the info Thrill.

Break, break.

Any Alaska folks out there care to share about life as a new-hire? How long on reserve? How likely is it to get Seattle out of training? Normally 3 day trips? Lastly, best/worst trips in your experience?

Sorry for the 20 questions. Next time you're in Altus, beers on me. Thanks!

Alaska Air Hiring

Life isn't bad as a new-hire. I think you have a chance of getting Seattle in training or after a short while. You could get LAX or ANC then get Seattle by the time your done with OE or shortly after as long as the bids keep coming out.. And it looks like they will. Our current bid closes soon and another is supposed to be out in 2 months. Management says another 140 pilots next year.

There is a good mix of trips 1, 2, 3 and 4 days. The amount of each varies each month but they try to keep the 4 days down and build more shorter trips. Each base is different in that regard.

Reserves in Seattle fly a lot I've been told. In ANC I flew between 40-75 hours. Reserve goes much more senior now with the new contract. This is because you can fly on days off on top of your 79 hour guarantee. So people who normally wouldn't hold a line end up getting a line.

Duke,

Send a PM to F-15Cricket. He just got out of OE and can give you the straight, latest scoop on hiring, training and base assignment.

Cass,
Really appreciate the info, that was really helpful.

Pack, thanks for the heads up. I PM'd him but Cricket must be on a nice layover in Kauai. It's all good.

Has anybody heard anything different about a possible March hiring window?

Thanks all!

beginner's luck?

Wow, just three weeks out of OE, and for December, I GOT A LINE! And, a good line, too. I know it won't always work out like this, but man, I am ecstatic! This is a great place to be, and an exciting time to be here!

In Nov and Dec expect different bid results. Many will bid reserve or crap lines to get x-mas or thanksgiving off. Those willing to fly those days can expect better lines. ANC base tends to get off reserve sooner. What you get in January will be more realistic. Welcome to AS, I hope these positive trends continue. It's a good place to be right now.

That is what I figured, AK Pilot, but I actually have 3 1/2 weekends off as well as Christmas. Guess the line I was awarded (my 3rd choice, btw) didn't look as attractive to others.

Like you said, we will see if it stays like this in Jan!
