Post Allegiant gets noise complaints @SFB

Looks like neighbors don't like 4am MD-80 run ups:

Sanford city leaders want airport to reduce noise

That lady needs to move. The airport was there long before she was. My favorite comment was "the airline should have less flights and make less money". I wonder where this crazy broad works. Maybe her employer needs to less business and make less money.

“My suggestion would be have a few less flights, make just a little less money and be a good neighbor to all of us here,” said Moore.

Moore next summer: "Allegiant sucks, they never have flights when I want them".

Someone please find out which direction she lives from the airport and blast that way.

Sounds like the mayor of Cleveland, when asked about the noise problem around the airport by a citizen, responded "Well maybe only deaf people should live near airports"

I all seriousness though, what do you expect when you buy a house near an airport? If I buy a house next to a grade school playground, do I get to demand someone tell those kids to be quiet?

If they are screaming at 4am, then yes. The run ups on the 80 can be heard in the neighborhoods south of Lake Jessup. There are frequent discussions on Facebook regarding them.

The government of Sanford is socialist so who knows... they may try and take this woman's suggestion and make it in to law

Well in all fairness there is no expectation for people that far away to be able to hear it.

What is happening is a very specific phenomenon of bounce or skip where the sound from the airport is getting up into the atmosphere and then bouncing back down and landing on the south side of the lake in Winter Springs.

The lake probably acts as a thermal refactor of some sort amplifying this phenomenon since the air over the lake is a different temperature than the air over the land.

Sound is an inverse square like all energy wavefront distribution, meaning that it will half the volume every time the distance is doubled. People on the south side of the lake shouldn't be able to hear it but they do because of this unique geographic feature.
