Default Medical coverage for new WO flow.

Wondering about how the transfer of medical coverage works for a pilot that is flowing over mid year? Is there a gap of coverage and does your dedicated out of pocket max start over once at AA?

After your release from purgatory, you are a new hire at AA. Nothing transfers with your medical insurance. You will get the election period (30 days?) to set up what you want, and I believe it is retroactive to your first day of employment so no gap in coverage.

Separate companies, separate coverage. You’ve got 60 days under COBRA to elect to pick up your old coverage should you need it in the gap. I’ll defer to those that know about AA insurance to tell you when it starts.

There was no gap for mine. My coverage shows the regional plan that ended on my resignation date then new AA plan that started on the very next day (AA indoc day 1). I didn’t have to mess with any kind of cobra. Seamless transition.

Not sure on out of pocket deductibles if they start over, can’t tell because I didn’t use my old plan at all for the year before the swap to AA. Used it immediately after transfer and it worked no problem though. Call your provider and ask Im sure they could tell you, I kept the same provider. I would assume most flows do.

Any cost differences (Cheapest family plan)? I assume AA pays less than the wholly owned do.

You would assume incorrectly. APA has never negotiated pilot only plans. You need your medical for your job unlike anyone else at the company and APA never thought to get better insurance. You might be unpleasantly surprised. Not awful but a lot of regionals have better.

I came from Envoy and the Medical at AA is better (aka, cheaper). You start over on your deductibles too.
