Default Pilot Numbers

D.M. is on C&R claiming we just hit a 5 year low with pilot numbers at AAL. Does anyone have the data? Is that true that our total mainline pilot numbers are shrinking?

You haven't ignored him yet?

We have 200-300 more pilots than we did when we got the single seniority list. 14770 now and I think we were right around 14500 then.

I believe active pilots are only around 13600. Is the discrepancy due to LTD pilots? It’s so confusing with all the different numbers floating around. It would be nice if APA had some historical graphs we could refer to. I’m just trying to keep up. So many things “comin’ in hot “ these days. Don would be a good content producer for the tabloids.

I haven't tracked active pilots, just seniority list pilots. In that case it's possible he is right but that would require another 300 or so to become inactive over the last couple years, a 30% increase. I doubt it.

200-300 more pilots in the last 5 years.

How many more pilots do UA DL SW have from 5 years ago?

What about fleet size and total blocks hours (or whatever this is called) compared to the first year of the merger? The 5 year low could be explained with streamlining the whole merger.

If it’s lower, it’s probably due to multiple factors (“synergies”, streamlining, fleet size, block hours, etc...) and the fact that it feels like those on property just plain work more hours than in the past reducing need for more pilots. Unless their reserve, almost everyone I fly with says they average 85-95 hours a month as a average.
