I think you’re reading the chart wrong.

Either way it's not "33% of the 320/CAs retire in 2019."

I bet by end of summer I'll be back on Short Call. Hate to do it but I put my bid in for ORD 73. I gave up making life decisions based on what AMR/ AAG might do a long time ago.

Hopefully the staffing going that direction is better. I have an entitlement to the bus (from the 73), that I will be able to exercise the next vacancy, that would have me based at home.

I asked KB, the guy in charge of Crew Planning if I would be withheld. He actually answered (a miracle in itself recently). He replied, that yes, I would be withheld, for 9-12 months.

So, from a potential new-higher's perspective, one should not expect to see CLT for several years at the very earliest? Am I reading that right?

That’s probably accurate...best guess is 200-250 waiting on CLT. Although they could allow a large number in on a single bid like they just did in PHL which would change things.

Has CLT always been this way or has it gone in waves? I'm a MIL guy with a few years left on the old ADSC so I'm just trying to get a feel for the water at this point. Thanks!

It’s a combination of things...

CLT is the most livable base AA has. Mountains and Beaches within reasonable distance, mild climate, reasonable cost of living and taxes.

Tons of PSA and Piedmont flows live in the area, and legacy AA pilots still changing domiciles and equipment.

Even with significant CLT retirements in the next few years, I would expect CLT to remain a highly desirable more senior base.

Thanks for the info. I'm from that area so hopefully it loosens up a bit by the time I'm ready to punch my ticket. One can dream right? ha

It will ebb and flow, no telling the picture in a few years. You have to take the long view about it. Commuting for a few years is no big deal.

Heck, 4 years ago I couldn’t get out of CLT to PHL for a few bid cycles...
