Not a dumb question. Out of base MU, OG and I guess the argument can be made that straight MU are all Premium killers. I’m ok with MU, but the other two are definitely killing the ability to have the premium flowing.

It’s not ‘personal gain’ as many of us actually LOSE money when out on Military Leave. It’s really hard to keep a full AA schedule and do a Guard/Reserve flying job. It’s very hard to keep two masters, AND a family. No one I know asks for sympathy, but at some point you have to massage schedules because of inevitable conflicts. I’m not going to get into details but sometimes trips/reserve blocks have to be dropped due to requirements at the squadron; it’s not the good old says where you got paid 4 Mil Lv days at AA.

Anyway, most of us will try to make up that lost AA money by picking up trips in MU or moving 24s to cover military so you can be available to the company. This affords both parties a win -win.

I do not mean to come across as unsympathetic, keeping up with two demanding jobs is certainly not an easy task. However the person I quoted said "No one really cares if you use mil leave to your slight advantage.... you SHOULD", that is what got my attention. thanks for your service Cheddar!

I can't believe anyone entertains this as even remotely ethical.

I agree, the OP was using the forum for its intended purpose....to learn and find the best ways to navigate the flying life.

“Personal gain” is where you got it wrong. In fact, in my case, it’s the exact opposite. When I take mil leave, not only and I still away from my family, I’m also losing hundreds/thousands.

100% you should. Abuse it? No. Why would you expect someone who puts their life on the line for you to eat a sh-t sandwich on both ends?

I guess I misunderstood your quote, thanks for the clarification.
