CA went about 7500, FO was 15,000+, so basically brand new

My list shows 6,260 retirements in the next 7 years....1/1/20-12/31/26 and that is just mandatory ones. 782, 853, 874, 960, 932, 956, 903 and then it drops off slightly to the 700s and 600s for the next few years.

The kind of movement we just saw on this past bid is just the start of a whole lot of movement.

Can you share this list? It seems to be different than the one that was posted on this site about 3 years ago. I have been looking for an updated one.

Reserve being a "good" deal is very equipment and base dependent. Wide body it's usually a pretty great life. Narrow body really depends. If you want to fly almost every reserve day, narrow body reserve in DFW is for you. I may get two or three days a month that I don't get used (this last December was kind of unusual, many of us sat most of the month, without flying). I have also timed out several months on reserve. This has been my experience in DFW on the -80, airbus and now the 737 over the years.

IS the juice worth the squeeze (commuting for the left seat)

Looking back, probably not. If I could have held G4 fo in DFW I wouldn't have done it. At the time, even G4 fo would have been commuting to reserve, so I figured if I was going to do that, I'd take the extra $$. Spending a few years commuting to crash pad reserve at 50 wasn't exactly as much fun as I remembered it being.

is that true? I’m trying to figure the math on that one. Say someone was hired at 25 years old. They would need 11,000-12,000 pilots to retire in 9 years to be the bottom group IV captain at 34 years old. In 9 years we are projecting 6-7,000 retirements correct? 34 seems like a stretch, 40 years old seems very likely.

according to the retirement calculator, I’ll be able to hold 777/787 CA at 45yo. So someone hired in their mid 20s will definitely get there before their 40th. Long before. This all assumes no retirement age increase/mergers and so on.

This just tells me that all our contracts are so bad that most of the list is unwilling to accept being junior, more so in the domestic system. But it's great for junior guys to be able to make some coin...if you're schedule is going to suck either way, might as well make the cash!

honestly I’m the last guy to defend AA, but our rsv is pretty good. No airport rsv like you get at UAL, 2-3 hour short call, 12 hour long call. Rsv pilots can’t be put in RO or rerouted if you prefer. Senior folks often bid reserve here. The down side is unless you’re a really senior rsv, you’ll need to accept min guarantee credit. People probably just don’t want to commute to rsv and spend days in a Crashpad. Thing is movement is so great right now that waiting a couple more bids to get exactly what you want is pretty easy.

lol at least you’re doing it now. I’ll be doing it under our next bankruptcy contract if Mr. Parker isn’t put in check soon.
